Nordic Sustainability was engaged to support Lundbeck in creating a tailored methodology for conducting an ESRS-based double materiality assessment.
The brief
The purpose of the project was to create a scoring methodology for Lundbeck’s forthcoming double materiality assessment in line with the new EU regulation on sustainability reporting, namely the European Sustainability Reporting Standard (ESRS).
In order to bring as much clarity as possible on materiality thresholds and internal prioritisation, Lundbeck and Nordic Sustainability co-developed a concrete methodology for assessing impacts across the five environmental topics of ESRS E1-E5 (Climate, Pollution, Water & marine resources, Biodiversity and ecosystems, Resource use and circular economy).
Our approach
The project was facilitated through a series of six topical workshops.
During the workshops the scoring keys were populated with Lundbeck specific input, leveraging proprietary data and relevant scientific insights. Subject matter experts were brought in for key topics to provide additional advice.
Lastly, a final alignment workshop was conducted to assure coherence across all environmental scoring keys.
Result
The project resulted in well-defined environmental methodology scoring keys tailored to Lundbeck to support their forthcoming double materiality assessment. Further, it built internal capacity around ESRS implementation and how to conduct the materiality analysis based on the scoring keys.
We enjoyed our collaboration with Nordic Sustainability - the team brought just the right balance of diligent process management, challenging questions, and sparring for how we can proceed with our ESRS work. We would be glad to work together again in the future.
