Wolt, a global food delivery company, partnered with Nordic Sustainability to translate its climate ambition into a science‑based climate transition plan designed to support its journey to net-zero by 2040.
The impact
Nordic Sustainability supported the development of Wolt’s climate transition plan (CTP), focused on prioritising effective climate action and understanding the financial implications of decarbonisation across the value chain. As such, the result was:
- A science‑based climate transition plan providing a clear path to net-zero by 2040
- Identification and prioritisation of decarbonisation initiatives across Scope 1, 2, 3
- Quantification of emission reduction potential, costs and required investments
- A structured pathway supported by tools enabling implementation
The client perspective
Nordic Sustainability was instrumental in helping us develop our first climate transition plan, and I was genuinely impressed from start to finish. Their team is both highly professional and wonderfully charismatic — but what really stood out was their ability to translate complex climate science into clear, practical language we could actually use to move faster and build internal buy-in.
They didn’t just hand over a polished report and disappear. They equipped us with excellent, easy-to-use tools and a structured approach that will serve as the backbone for our future work and ongoing improvements.
Just as importantly, the team’s passion is real. They do this work because they believe in impact, and that conviction shows up in everything — from the energy they bring to the rigor of their thinking. As climate science gets more complicated, it’s a huge relief to have trusted experts on our side to help guide us through it.

The challenge
As a fast‑growing food delivery platform, Wolt has set an ambition to reach net-zero emissions by 2040. Consequently, to move from ambition to action, the company needed to:
- Strengthen the quality and coverage of its greenhouse gas inventory
- Identify emission hotspots across operations and the wider value chain
- Prioritise the most impactful and feasible decarbonisation initiatives
- Understand the financial implications of emissions reductions while accounting for future growth
A key challenge was ensuring that climate action remained credible, actionable and scalable as the business continues to grow.
Our approach
- Reviewing the GHG inventory
First, we reviewed Wolt’s greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory to assess data quality, coverage and methodological robustness across Scope 1, 2 and 3.
The review identified key development areas, recommended next steps and provided a clearer understanding of Wolt’s main emission sources. This created a solid foundation for effective decarbonisation measures.
Our approach was formulated through our experience supporting 10+ organisations with science-based climate transition plans. Learn more about our services here.
- Identifying emission hotspots and co‑creating initiatives
Based on the GHG inventory review, we identified emission hotspots and reduction opportunities across Wolt’s value chain.
Through collaborative workshops with key stakeholders, we mapped existing and potential decarbonisation initiatives across Scope 1, 2 and 3.
During the workshops, enablers and blockers were discussed, and the feasibility of each initiative was assessed.
Using insights from both the inventory review and stakeholder engagement, the most impactful and feasible initiatives were prioritised.
- Quantifying Wolt’s climate transition pathway and financial implications
Next, we quantified the prioritised initiatives to assess their combined emission reduction potential, taking Wolt’s projected growth into account.
We used Nordic Sustainability’s decarbonisation tool to model the transition pathway, enabling Wolt to adjust assumptions and incorporate new initiatives over time.
For each initiative, we worked closely with Wolt’s stakeholders to estimate associated financial costs, gains and required investments.
Ultimately, the final output included a detailed overview of the decarbonisation pathway, financial implications, remaining emission sources and key recommendations for operationalising the plan.

Looking ahead
With a strengthened understanding of its emissions profile, a clear set of prioritised decarbonisation levers and an initial overview of required investments, Wolt is now well‑positioned to drive its transition towards net-zero.
Wolt’s climate transition plan now provides both a structured and flexible foundation that supports ongoing decision‑making, capability building and continuous improvement as the company progresses on its climate journey.
From targets to transition
Many organisations have set climate ambitions. The real challenge lies in translating those ambitions into a quantified transition plan that can be implemented across the business and adapted as conditions change.
At Nordic Sustainability, we support companies through climate transition planning, including identifying emission hotspots, quantifying decarbonisation pathways and developing science‑aligned transition plans.
If you are working to turn climate targets into a concrete transition pathway, we would be happy to start a conversation.
