To prepare for the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), Ørsted participated in a pilot to test Nordic Sustainability’s CSDDD Maturity tool.
The brief
With the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) adopted, leading companies are moving to prepare for enforcement. Ørsted partnered with Nordic Sustainability to pilot the CSDDD Maturity Tool—a solution designed not only to assess organizational maturity, but also to support companies in implementing the requirements in a way that is targeted, prioritized, and aligned with the company’s specific gaps.
Our approach
As part of the pilot, Ørsted conducted a self-assessment using the CSDDD Maturity Tool, with guidance and support from Nordic Sustainability throughout the process. Following the self-assessment, Nordic Sustainability conducted a thorough review of the responses and developed targeted observations and recommendations. These formed the basis for a two interactive workshops, where findings were explored in detail and potential next steps for implementation were discussed collaboratively.
Impact and outcome
Through this process, Ørsted gained valuable insights into their current due diligence performance and established a direction for meeting CSDDD requirements. They also received a customised version of the Maturity Tool to support their continued efforts.
Ready to support your CSDDD Journey
With a series of pilot projects nearly completed, Nordic Sustainability has refined its CSDDD Maturity Tool and advisory services and is now ready to offer an updated service package to help other companies prepare for CSDDD implementation. Get in touch with our team – we would be happy to discuss how we can support your organisation.
To share key takeaways from the pilot and practical insights on CSDDD implementation, we hosted a webinar on May 21st 2025. You can watch and read more about the webinar here.
Note on Omnibus
With the Eu Omnibus proposal introducing some fundamental adjustments to the CSDDD – such as the introduction of tier 1 focus – a significant portion of the core requirements, estimated at around 95%, is expected to remain in place. We recognise that the more fundamental adjustments may influence how companies approach implementation in specific areas. At the same time, the overall direction and expectations of the Directive remain largely consistent, making early and thorough preparation still highly relevant for shaping a practical, risk-based due diligence strategy.
The CSDDD maturity assessment for Ørsted extends beyond the requirements of the CSDDD itself and serves as a valuable exercise to evaluate our current due diligence maturity. As we continue to develop our practices, our goal is to align with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), the OECD Guidelines, and the CSDDD. The structure of the tool allowed us to effectively incorporate all relevant requirements."
